Six high school students from Maui took on the difficult but urgent issue of human trafficking, uncovering that the most dangerous situations often come not from strangers, but from within a victim’s own home. Through conversations with survivors, advocates, and local police, they learned that healing and prevention often begin with something deeply human — a safe, supportive relationship. Moved by what they learned, the students created awareness cards highlighting the warning signs of trafficking and personally handed them out to over 500 people at local markets and community spaces. They also presented at schools, sharing what they learned with peers in the hope that someone might recognize the signs — and step in before it's too late.
